Xavi The X Files

So we finally say adios to Xavi Hernandez i Creus.

In an emotional press conference at Camp Nou today he bade a formal farewell to the club he has graced since the age of eleven

In June 2014 he announced that he would leave the club to join Qatari club Al Sadd

However the new manger at that time , Luis Enrique peruaded Xavi to stay for one more season and he was made club captain

Born in Terrassa a suburb of Barcelona Xavi is a product of Barcelona’s “la Masia” youth system he worked his way up through the youth and reserve teams before making his senior debut against Southampton in a friendly in 1988

His competitive debut took place on 18 August 1988 in the super cup final v Mallorca ax match in which he scored

His La Liga debut came in October of that year against Valencia in a 3-1 win

At 5ft 7ins wearing the number 6 shirt he has enchanted and delighted us with his football skills as well as his humble and modest manner of the field

The titles and honours he has achieved are too many to mention

764 appearances for Barcelona

504 la Liga appearances

156 Chanpions League Matches

8 La Liga Titles

3 champions League Winners Medals

And 133 caps for Spain

Xavi will now become an ambassador for the 2022 FIFA World Cup as well as start his coaching qualifications.

So it’s goodbye for now but Xavi is part of Barcelona and Barcelona will always be a part of Xavi so I’m sure he will return one day in some capacity

Until then we have the memories to keep him in our hearts until we can welcome him back to Catalonia
Gracias Xavi
