After the dusty clay of the Bois de Boulogne there could not be a more contrasting place for the worlds best women’s tennis players to ply their trade than Devonshire Park, Eastbourne
The orange courts and the smoggy haze of Paris replaced by the lush green grass of sussex and a fresh sea breeze to cleanse the nostrils and the senses.
This tournament oozes quentisential English charm
This tournament has always been the Wimbledon warm up for the ladies but to just call it that would be an Injustice.
You only have to look at the roll of honour of winners From Chris Evert in the first tournament in 1974 to last years winner Maddison Keys via Martina Navratilova and Kim Clijsters to realise the sheer quality of tennis that is on offer annually at Devonshire Park.
So may the shine gently on our backs and the cold winds stay away for a week, so we can bask in the tennis talent on show, and sample the delights of this glorious seaside town.
